The Brief
We previously did some joinery projects for our loyal clients over in Bookham, Surrey consisting of renovating their front door and porch, their stairs and everything in between. We were delighted to go back and do one final job for them.
During the client’s extensive house refurbishment, they needed to remove some walls and introduce structural, supporting steel beams. The only issue with steel beams is they often need to be covered in something that looks nice to hide the manufactural look to them. In this case, the decision was to build around them in beautiful joinery-grade oak.
Action taken
We first measured up the area in our client’s home so we could machine and pre-assemble the oak boxings at our workshops to the correct sizing. Two of the three boxings could be fully assembled at our workshops. Unfortunately, one needed to be built/made around a large existing beam as the space was too awkward to fit it straight on. However, the team did their best and succeeded in what could have been a difficult situation.
Outcome
The finished boxings came out looking lovely, especially with a coat of protective oil. In this case, we used Osmo Poly X Oil code 3032. We’re so glad and proud that we got to do so many joinery projects for our client and we hope they enjoy their new surroundings as much as we enjoyed making them.
Jim and the JLA crew are skilled craftsmen of the carpentry trade. They have added a premium finish to a number of areas in our 2-year renovation of our family home and we would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone looking for fine woodwork projects in their own homes.
We have engaged with Jim and more recently his son James on our very large front door and ‘statement piece’ porch which has added a lot of kerb appeal. We then had the team create a number of smaller but no less important pieces including the oak window sills, breakfast bar, oak beams and office desk.
We had a clear vision in mind as to what we wanted from the team and I was probably a demanding customer at times! However, nothing seemed too much trouble for Jim and it was an enjoyable experience working with the JLA team to ensure the finished products matched our expectations.
Thoroughly recommend.
