The Brief

This was a local project, with the enquiry coming from customers in a neighboring village, just a short distance from our workshops. They wanted to transform their existing staircase, which featured a painted finish and spindled stair and landing, into a modern design with an all-oak staircase and a sleek glass balustrade.

Action taken

As with any renovation, our first step was to take precise measurements to ensure a perfect fit. Once we had the dimensions, we crafted all the components in our workshops. With everything ready, we headed to the site to begin the process.The initial task was to carefully remove all the old, unwanted features of the existing staircase. We then began installing the custom oak components, bringing warmth and character to the space. Once the oak was in place, we templated the glass balustrade and sent the templates to our trusted glass suppliers. At the same time, we applied a clear sealer to the oak components before the glass was installed, avoiding the challenge of coating the wood around the fitted glass.

Outcome

While waiting for the glass to be prepared, we crafted bespoke oak under-stair cupboard doors, which were installed alongside the glass to complete the transformation. With the glass balustrade in place and the cupboard doors fitted, the project was finalised. The customers were thrilled with the result. Once the new carpet and final decorations were completed, the staircase became a striking centerpiece for their home. As the photos show, the finished project perfectly combines functionality and style.
