The Brief

Whilst carrying out a staircase renovation for this particular customer, they asked if we could look at repairing one of the supports to their porch, which got damaged accidentally by a skip lorry trying to carry out a delivery.

A structural engineer had already been out to inspect the damage and give a report on the repair work that should be carried out.

Action taken

Once we had set up some of our scaffolding and put temporary supports under the porch, we could remove all the damaged and broken timber and begin fitting a new structural oak knee.

The beam that projected out the face of the barn and under the porch needed to be plated in steel, as per the structural engineer’s recommendations, so we got to work drilling and bolting the steel in place to add some much-needed strength.

Outcome

The repaired porch looked as good as new once we had coated our repair work in black paint to match the rest of the barn.

More work could be on the horizon for us with this customer. We hope so, as they have been a pleasure to work for and the work itself was incredibly interesting.

Jim, James and the rest of the team did a great job for us. From initial contact, to helping us clarify our thoughts on the design we wanted, through to their careful execution. Will use them again and would recommend them highly.
