This project merges both traditional and modern design elements, in order to create a contemporary oak staircase.
Glass is the ideal material to use if you’re looking to keep as much light as possible in the room. Furthermore, due to its strength and durability, a glass/oak staircase often requires very little maintenance and should last for many many years!
This project was carried out on behalf of Coopers of Surrey. The team worked closely with Steven Cooper and Chloe Green, of Coopers of Surrey, to help meet their client’s requests and deliver their client their dream staircase.
The Brief
Coopers of Surrey’s Surrey based client required a large oak staircase and landing that utilised plenty of glass to maximize light throughout the entrance hall. Additionally, the clients also required the first couple of steps to fill an awkward corner where headroom was previously an issue.
Action Taken
Once the initial designs had been created and finalised, we invited their customers to our Sussex workshop, where they picked from a variety of material samples, before we began the manufacture.
Upon finishing the workshop based jobs, we headed to the site, where our team carefully stripped out the existing staircase and provided a temporary replacement for the customers to use whilst the work was being undertaken.
Outcome
The final contemporary oak staircase and landing fitted seamlessly into their clients home, opening up the space and making it look lovely and bright. The oak throughout brings in that more traditional element, contrasting perfectly with the modern glass elements.
We installed extra wide and long bottom treads as the ceiling overhand of the upstairs hallway meant that headroom was an issue, however upon fitting the new treads, the third step was clear of obstruction.
