The Brief
We were excited to be asked to build a new staircase for a lovely, secluded country home which was undergoing a top-to-bottom refurbishment. The original staircase was covered in thick paint and looked rather dated, sorry for itself, and in need of replacement.
The theme the client wanted, was for this to be a solid oak staircase with powder-coated black metal spindles and finished off with a carpeted runner.
Action taken
We first went to the customers’ home to measure the existing staircase, then measure the available space for fitting to see if we could build a bigger, more comfortable stair for the customers.
Once sizes had been taken, it was back to our workshops and offices to choose samples with the customers and pin down all the fine details.
We set to work building the staircase and, when it was ready, we assembled it all in our workshops to guarantee everything worked and went together easily to reduce time on site.
Outcome
The finished staircase looked lovely with its finish coat of Osmo oil and carpeted runner. We got the metal spindles powder coated along with the handrail brackets for the wall-mounted handrail which tied everything together nicely.
We’d also like to thank Southern Fabrications Sussex for their involvement. They kindly sorted out the powder coating on the spindles and handrail brackets.
We asked JLA joinery to design a new staircase for us to replace the rather ugly one that was already there. After an initial visit to view the house they then invited us to visit their workshop to look at various timber options and finishes. James was meticulous in the measurements he took to ensure the new design was the correct dimensions. We are delighted with our new oak staircase which has transformed the entrance hall.
