The Brief 

We had the pleasure of being brought onto a new project for our clients, to take their old, dark coloured timber staircase and balustrade and turn it into a nice, sleek oak and glass staircase. They also wanted to add a unique look by adding brushed stainless steel hardware as a finishing touch. 

Oak is always a popular choice for a staircase. It looks clean, is an attractive material in itself, makes furnishings stand out and can make even the simplest of designs appear impressive. We were excited to get to work!

Action taken 

Once decisions on design and specification had been finalised, like any project we take on, the first thing we did with this staircase refurbishment was to make the newel post boxing/sleeves at our workshop.

Our decision to do this first, is so when fitted on site, it conceals the original newel post. We find this is the best way as our clients retain the strength of their original stair components. What we did to take our client’s staircase to the next level, was to add in oak elements. It completely changed the look and feel of the staircase without sacrificing any structural strength.

Once all the oak had been fitted including the handrails we could then complete the template for the glass and get it ordered from our glass suppliers.

Outcome 

The finished staircase looked lovely and definitely brightened up the entrance hall to the clients home. We were really pleased with the outcome, especially as the combination of hardwood, glass and steel hardware really tied together well and completed the look.
