The Brief

This customer had recently finished an extensive new build containing an office, garage and cinema. They weren’t happy with the overall look of the interior joinery, so came to us for some help. 

This project was an interesting one, particularly as none of the timber used was to be straight, or if it was it didn’t stay that way for long. 

Action taken

The staircase, balustrading and handrails were the main items the customers wanted to change as they felt it looked a bit plain. After discussing their ideas and looking for online inspiration, we then came to a decision on a design which they loved. The curved spindles ran from one staircase, through the floor, passed the landing, and then all the way upstairs to another staircase. 

This was definitely a job where we needed to supply some samples and test pieces to ensure we fine tuned the design and gather the right crucial measurements. Once we had completed this and the customers were pleased with the look, we went back to the workshop and set up a production line. The curved spindle shape had to be repeated time and time again, which was quite a big task. 

The finished spindles were then fitted to the walls using chrome plated rods as this was the perfect way to hide the original structural fixings. These also tied in nicely with the theme of the interior ironmongery, which was also chrome. 

Once the spindles had been fitted, we then made progress on the handrail. This was fairly conventional in size and shape but differed to most as the customer wanted continuous flowing corners, to give a consistent look to the handrail. 

Outcome

The finished spindles and handrail gave the stairwell a completely unique and bespoke look, which was everything the customer had hoped for. Additionally we also made bespoke office furniture for the newly built study, which had stunning views over the garden and nearby harbour.
