Window opening to Patio Doors
The brief
Windows and doors can bring in a lot of light into the home and create entrances that help enhance the overall look of a building and make outdoor spaces more accessible. This particular project included a new set of patio doors.
A client approached us and asked for their window to be transformed into a set of patio doors – this isn’t as difficult as it sounds, because as long as the window is wide enough you can simply just cut the wall out below with the knowledge that the wall is supported, as it had to be originally for the window to exist.
action taken
The first step taken was to measure the window width and the intended finished height of the new door. Clear and finalised measurements are important aspects of any project to create a perfectly fitting piece. We then headed to our workshops to begin the manufacture of the new patio doors.
We invited the customer to the workshops to choose door details like the size of glazing and any mouldings to be put on. The customer was to choose and purchase the hardware such as hinges and handles and locks themselves so we could get them all fitted in the workshops and ready to fit on site.
outcome
There was a patio built outside after the door was fitted and upon our return to take pictures it was evident why the customers wanted patio doors to lead out onto the lovely area that they had created outside, it helped highlight a beautiful relaxed outdoor area and made it easily accessible.
