Ash Stair Refurbishment
The Brief:
For this job, we were to turn an old painted pine staircase into an Ash and glass one. This was to not only give the home a nice centrepiece but to also achieve what most people are after, which is get more light through the home.
Action taken:
Instead of the costlier option of making a new staircase from scratch at the workshops and then removing the old to fit it, we saved the customer some money and turned a perfectly good structural stair into one they like the look of.
After our initial site visit to measure up and take some sketches, we could then get back to the workshops and get some Ash machined into the components needed.
Outcome:
Once we had fitted all the Ash components to the staircase we could then get the glass made and fitted.
This staircase was slightly different to the norm as the customers wanted a combination of clear coated Ash and painted softwood to create the happy medium they wanted between too much bare wood and too much painted wood, the finished article looked modern, clean and fresh.
We contacted JLA to look at replacing our staircase after speaking to another mainstream stair company and feeling uncomfortable about the rigid options they presented. JLA couldn’t have been more different. They are a family run business but very well established and used to working at the premium end of the market. From the initial conversation to the finished job, it was clear that they had the experience, passion and technical capability to do a brilliant job. The attention to detail, advice, flexibility and workmanship was outstanding and they were highly professional and efficient on site. The end result was a beautiful new staircase that has become a real feature as opposed to a rather dated eyesore. We wouldn’t hesitate to use JLA again and highly recommend them.
