Bespoke TV unit

The Brief:

One of our regular customers came to us in need of the final piece to complete their 18 month renovation project. They wanted a bespoke TV stand to fit the space perfectly and compliment the other items of furniture we had previously designed and fabricated for them.

Being a modern home, but with traditional features, they didn’t want a wall mounted TV. Also they had purchased a soundbar and subwoofer to complete their home cinema system and needed it housed in the neatest possible way to align with their minimal theme.

Action Taken:

With the customers brief in mind we went to the drawing board and hand sketched a few initial ideas. Gradually, with the client’s input, these were refined until we had agreed on a couple of concepts to work with. To help them visualise the finished product we mocked up some samples with timber offcuts.

Using both Tulipwood, a beautifully rich coloured hardwood, and oak, we handcrafted the outer cabinets and doors, the ideal space for storing DVD’s. We paired these with an MDF mesh, not only for visual appeal, but also to let the sound of the sub-woofer out clearly, without distortion.

The exterior doors were then hand painted, whilst leaving the interior clear to allow appreciation of the grain of the oak panels and shelves inside.

Finally, we chose a utile top, utile has an interlocked grain and a medium, smooth uniform texture making it ideal for solid surfaces. A black stain was used to complement the interior decor and contrast against the white doors.

Outcome:

A practical, yet modern and stylish solution which fitted the space perfectly. The hardwood materials used mean that the item will last a lifetime.
