Oak and Glass Staircase

The Brief:

To design, construct and install two wooden staircases at homes in East Wittering.

Background:

We were contacted via our website by a property developer who was working on two properties near to our workshops in East Wittering, Sussex. The two properties in question were identical, so any work carried out on one would have to be identical to the other. Naturally, this presented our team of expert joiners with a unique challenge.

In order to achieve this, along with the nautical theme that was required, the developer wanted to try and make the oak timber look like driftwood you would find washed up on the beach. To get our joinery quality oak to look aged and rustic, we carried out a comprehensive sand-blasted technique, which makes the surface of the timber rough and brings out the grain nicely.

In conjunction with the sand-blasted oak, we used crystal clear toughened glazing as a balustrade to keep the open plan and light feel to the staircases and the surrounding area.

The outcome:

The developer was thrilled with the staircases our team designed and constructed, and said that he would not hesitate to use us again in the future and would happily recommend us to anyone needing anything crafted in wood.

We would like to thank JLA Joinery for producing 2 sets of unique high quality staircases. The shot blasted oak finish gave a fantastic selling point to this seafront development.
